Collection: Pig Day

March 1st is National Pig Day.

This commemorative day was proposed in the United States in 1972 with the aim of "recognizing the proper status of pigs."

Okinawa and "American pigs" share an inseparable bond.
After the war, Okinawa was hit by a severe food shortage. It was the Okinawans (Uchinanchu) who had emigrated to Hawaii who rose to the challenge of their homeland's crisis. They raised funds to purchase 550 pigs on the American mainland, transported them by ship from Oregon to Uruma City, and saved the prefectural residents from starvation. Without these pigs, Okinawa's traditional pork dishes might not be as beloved as they are today.

With that in mind, our March recommendation highlights Okinawan pork dishes.
Please enjoy Okinawan pork dishes, where "everything but the squeal" is eaten.
